Monsoon requires special cargo precautions

Monsoon has hit some parts of India. Various sources suggest normal monsoon for the current fiscal. Monsoon brings heavy rains several times. Cargo may be exposed to risks associated with damages due to rains. Therefore, special precautions are required to protect your cargo.

For Suppliers

  1. Do the pre-monsoon check-up of your vehicles covering batteries, tyres, lights – headlights and signal lights, electrical wiring, brake fluid, brakes, engine fluids and wipers
  2. If you are having Closed body trucks, check if there are any holes or weak body. Do the necessary repairs wherever required.
  3. Is there any chance of water entering from outside?
  4. Check if water can enter from the SIDE WALLs LEAKAGE
  5. Check your tyres for safety. Replace worn out tyres with a new set.
  6. Check for wheel alignment
  7. Wrap the cargo with plastic or tarpaulin wherever required. Do not send material uncovered.
  8. Keep extra tarpaulins
  9. Packaging should also take into account various risks of damages due to water
  10. Periodically inspect the vehicles
  11. Ensure that there are no holes in the Tarpaulins.
  12. Please, take precautions as to that there are no gaps/ holes on Floor of the Truck.

For Shippers

  1. Do the pre-monsoon check-up of your Storage, Warehousing, loading and unloading facilities
  2. When was the last time water entered into your facility through ROOF, LEAKAGE or  from the FLOORING
  3. Is there any chance of water entering from outside?
  4. Check if water enters from the SIDE WALLs LEAKAGE
  5. Do you need ROOF / CEILING repairing
  6. Can water enter from flooring
  7. Do the necessary repairs wherever required as mentioned above
  8. Check all items for safety. Repair or replace unsafe facilities.
  9. Wrap the cargo with plastic or tarpaulin wherever required. Keep spare tarpaulins.
  10. Keep the material at the minimum height from the floor
  11. Packaging should also take into account various risks of damages due to water
  12. Periodically inspect the storage, warehousing, loading and unloading facilities
